Vegan CNY envisions a world where all beings live free from harm, oppression, and exploitation. A world where communities are nourished through compassion, equity, and mutual care—and where food is accessible, ethical, and just. Through grassroots action and collective empowerment, we strive to create lasting change that centers liberation for animals, people, and the planet.

Food Share

Vegan CNY’s Food Share is a weekly community care initiative where community members share nutritious, plant-based meals and essential items with one another.

Rooted in the principles of food justice and mutual aid, Food Share nourishes bodies while fostering dignity, connection, and compassion within our community.

Meals are prepared through generous donations from our volunteers and supporters. If you would like to volunteer please contact us at info@vegancny.org.

Lunch is served every Saturday from 12:00pm – 1:00pm.  Find us outside University United Methodist Church on the corner of E. Genesee St. and University Ave. in Syracuse, NY.

VEGAN CNY YEAR IN REVIEW: 2023

With all that’s been going on in the world—violent conflict, political unrest, environmental turmoil—it’s hard to sit down and write an upbeat “year in review,” to sit with a straight face and write a piece that says “wasn’t 2023 just terrific?” 2023 was rough. For a...

Briarwood Farm Sanctuary

From the first time I stepped onto a Sanctuary, I was in love. I can’t remember when that was exactly. Long before my son was born, and he just turned 16 this past Spring, so it had to be 18 years ago. 20? It was Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen. A gorgeous day. I...

VEGAN CNY YEAR IN REVIEW:  2022

At the end of 2019, I wrote a “Year in Review” piece brimming with optimism.  I noted then, that 2019 had been rough in a lot of ways (see: toxic tweets, resurgent anti-Semitism, racism, misogyny, gun violence, eco-crisis, etc.) I noted, though, that really great...

Vegan CNY’s Year In Review

In a lot of ways, 2019 was rough.   Kids in cages. Toxic tweets. The lowest of low-brow politics. Shootings. The Amazon on fire. Everything else on fire. Resurgent anti-Semitism. Bigotry and misogyny on full display. A growing gulf between the haves and...

The House Passed PACT

Last week, following the US House of Representatives unanimous vote passing the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, I was asked what I thought about the law. Truth is, when I was asked, I had no idea what I thought about it. I'd heard some vague buzz about it,...

Out and About in Ithaca

Every year my son and I go camping. It gives us a chance to get away, just the two of us, spend some time together, hang out, talk. Every year, we pack up the tent, the hammock, some junk food, and we head to Watkins Glen. We camp, we make make vegan s'mores, we hike...

Mom’s Diner

I imagine I've walked by Mom's Diner-- the little place on the corner of Westcott and Harvard-- at least a thousand times. Mom's sits next to Recess Coffee, across the street from Alto Cinco and the Westcott Theater, right down the street from the Real Food Co-op,...

Stout Beard Brewing Co – Westcott Chill Spot with Character

The Experience   Supporting local businesses is a strong value for most Syracuse natives and the guys behind Stout Beard Brewing Co. are no exception. From brewing beer to cooking up food, Stout is comprised of New York State and Onondaga Grown ingredients. They...

Habiba’s Ethiopian Kitchen – Northside Gem

The Experience The first time I had the opportunity to enjoy Habiba’s Ethiopian food was through My Luck Tummy. Those who are not familiar, My Lucky Tummy is a pop-up food court that hosts Refugees and New Americans in Syracuse as guest chefs, bringing more flavor to...

Earth Mix – A Superfood Formula by Vibrational Elixirs

The other day, I had a chance to sit down with Mike Russo to talk about his business, Vibrational Elixirs. As a long-time fan of Vibrational Elixirs’ Earth Mix products, I was curious to learn more about how the business came to be. Mike, whom I’d met at various vegan...
